Spirulina In The Candida Diet

11th November 2014

spirulinaSpirulina is often recommended by naturopaths and herbologists as a supplement for increasing health and vitality. If you’re on a Candida eliminating diet there are some great reasons for incorporating spirulina into that diet.

There have been many studies conducted on the health promoting properties of Spirulina and many of those studies show evidence that spirulina is a good defense against Candidia albicanis.

Spirulina Background

Spirulina is a blue green algae that grows in extreme conditions like warm volcanic lakes. It was traditionally consumed by some Mexican and African people groups. Because of the extreme environment that it lives in, spirulina has developed some amazing characteristics that in turn are beneficial for humans.

Spirulina Health Benefits

Studies have shown that spirulina has strong anti-viral properties and has been shown to protect mice from very lethal viruses such as strains of the HIV virus and the Herpes virus.

It also has been shown to strengthen the immune system and to have enzymes that repair DNA which prevents some cancers from forming.

As for Candida, spirulina has been shown to promote the growth of healthy bacterial flora in the intestines which in turn inhibits Candida from thriving. Also, the immune strengthening properties of spirulina will help the body eliminate Candida cells.

Spirulina is a Great Supplement

Overall, Spirulina would be great supplement for someone to add to his/her diet. Even if Candida wasn’t an issue, this algae is beneficial.  One word of caution though. Make sure you buy and take a high quality Spirulina supplement.

There many on the market and some are made of similar blue green algae, but won’t have all the properties that true Spirulina has. Look for the scientific name “Arthrospira platensis“. Following a good Candida eliminating diet and adding Spirulina to that diet could really go a long way in helping people to overcome systemic Candida.
