In a previous article, I mentioned coconut oil as one of the five great Candida fighting herbal treatments out there. However, I thought it would be fitting to devote a whole article to exactly how coconut oil works against Candida and go more in depth on how it can be incorporated into the diet.
Researchers have been studying the properties of coconut oil for sometime and there have been many valuable health properties discovered, from weight loss to it’s antimicrobial properties. Researchers noted that in regions of the world where coconut oil is heavily consumed the people there have very little problem with yeast infections or candidiasis.
Coconut Oil In Diet
It is recommended that 3 to 5 tablespoons of pure non-hydrogenated coconut oil are consumed a day as part of a yeast eliminating diet. Creativity can be used in getting the recommended amount by using the oil in your cooking in place of other oils. Coconut oil has a light taste and is very good for cooking because it withstands high temperatures.
Coconut oil can be added to oatmeal, smoothies, stir fries, Thai curries, and other recipes that require oil. Dieters may want to start with one tablespoon and and then work their way up because uncomfortable die off symptoms can occur.
How Coconut Oil Works
Coconut oil contains two acids that have anti-microbial properties, therefore, the oil makes an unfavorable environment for things like Candida and other harmful bacteria to survive in the body. However, the helpful bacteria in the body are not affected by the acids in coconut oil.
Coconut oil can also be used externally to treat candidiasis of the skin and other fungal infections such as jock itch and athletes foot by rubbing it on the infected area 3 to 4 times a day.

Conclusions
As with any Candida remedy, there is no magic bullet. I doubt the Candida dieter would have much success with coconut oil if they refused to adjust the other parts of their diet. Coconut oil will be most effective as part of a Candida eliminating diet which incorporates other herbs and foods that don’t promote Candida overgrowth.
