To be honest, for many people on a Candida diet the holidays spell disaster for maintaining the Candida albicans eliminating diet.
Sugar abounds during the holidays and is constantly being shoved in your face while at holiday parties and functions. So should people just give up their Candida Diet during the holiday period?
I think giving up would be foolish as it took a lot of time and effort to get your system to a healthy yeast-free state, but perhaps by practicing these tips you can indulge a little bit and still have a great holiday season yeast infection free.
Tips to Stay Yeast Free During the Holidays
- Find some good sugar-free, low glycemic cookie recipes.
I’m generally not an advocate of artificial sweetener but during the holidays it can be a lifesaver. Make your own Candida diet friendly cookies and take your own plate of these goodies to parties. It’s good not to show up empty handed anyway and It’s something you can eat. ( Most of your favorites can be made with Stevia (or other non-calorie sweetener) and white flour (gluten-free) alternatives so you wont be missing anything.) - Olive Leaf Extract
If you aren’t already taking this yeast killing powerhouse, it’s a good idea to start during the holidays or other times when eating prohibited foods is inevitable. If you are taking it everyday, up your dose during the holidays. Olive leaf extract will help contract the effects of sugar or high glycemic carbs to a degree. Just make sure you use a high grade, whole leaf variety. - Take Time Out
The holidays can be so busy and stressful which has negative effects on health and the immune system. This in turn can make room for yeast to grow. Take some time to relax and do the things that help you achieve your zen-like state. Perhaps shop online to save time and focus on relationships over decorations and gift buying. - Keep up with your Probiotics
Make sure you continue to consume prebiotic foods, foods rich in probiotics and take probiotic supplements so you can keep your good intestinal bacterial healthy. Remember that good bacteria prevent Candida albicans cells from growing in your system, so keep those bacteria happy.
Don’t let the holidays derail all the progress you have made eliminating Candida yeast overgrowth from your body and don’t let a Candida diet ruin your holiday fun. Just put the above steps into practice and come January, you’ll still be yeast infection free.
